How to decorate and protect sewers and plumbing at the same time

Often, under the influence of various factors, the water supply system in the country is at risk of damage. However, if you give a little freedom of imagination, you can protect the pipes and build a unique decor for the site.

Prevent destruction

Summer residents lay sewer and water pipes on their plots to make their stay in the house more comfortable. Only now they are often located in the most inconvenient, passable place: a wheelbarrow with a load is rolled over them, various building materials are moved, they interfere with the passage. Soon, all this will lead to the fact that the pipes will fail.

Interesting decor - imitation of a bridge

This is an original solution that will become an additional decoration for your garden. However, a wooden bridge will not only be an excellent decor, but also a functional structure at the same time.First, it will tie together the two parts of the site, which are ugly separated by a pipeline. Thus, you will create a neat and harmonious image of the space.

Secondly, the product has a rise, which will protect the sewer and water pipes from mechanical stress.

A wooden bridge will add completeness to your garden, and it will not be difficult to make it.

Materials and work

To make a solid structure, you need a solid base. For this, two pieces of rolled metal or a channel are suitable. But their shape should be curved in the form of an arc. An order can be made at a metal warehouse. There they will be made according to your measurements, with the correct arched shape and with the desired length.

As a flooring, you will need solid boards, 30 mm thick will be enough. Calculate and order the required amount of material.

If you plan to use your boards, then to calculate, measure the length and width of the future bridge, calculate the total area and divide by the area of one board. This will give you the desired quantity.

If you are going to buy boards, then you just need to know the length and width of the bridge, the rest of the calculations will be carried out by specialists in the store.

In addition to the wooden flooring itself, you will also need bars for the railing. It all depends on your imagination: you install them often or, conversely, rarely, or maybe come up with some interesting decor. When all the materials are ready, you just have to put the whole structure together. Bridge assembly process:

  1. Prepare pits for the metal base.
  2. Install arched channels. For greater reliability, it is better to concrete them, and not just dig them in.
  3. Now go about laying the platform. Attach the boards to the metal base with bolts. Do not stack them very tightly to each other, leaving a small gap, because rain and snow can swell the wood a little. If desired, the boards can be coated with a water-repellent impregnation.
  4. Next, install the crossbeams, decor and railings on top.

Thus, you will have a reliable and beautiful bridge that will serve you for many years.

  • Resistant to chemical reactions. Since sewage pipes are constantly exposed to numerous chemical influences, they are protected from destruction. Plastic does not break down under the influence of chemical reactions
  • External damage. Since the external sewer is buried in the ground, it is affected by the soil. The structure of the plastic can withstand severe stress, mechanical damage and pressure
  • Resistant to clogging
  • Installation of a sewer outlet takes half the timethan creating a sewer from metal products. They are connected to each other without the use of welding - they are inserted into each other using a special lubricant
  • Cost. Compared to other materials, plastic is much more profitable.

To carry out sewage from plastic, you will need tees, fittings. Most often this is necessary when creating an internal sewerage system at home.

Choosing the right sewer diameter. For individual construction (private house), a diameter of up to 150 mm is sufficient, even for a house with 4-5 bathrooms.

Larger diameter material is used for drainage in hotels, hospitals and other administrative institutions. Diameter over 300 mm is used in industrial plants.

Universal type for sewage - polypropylene models (PP index). They combine an advantageous cost, a service life of up to 50 years and an easy installation. PP is used in the construction of private houses in the wiring of external and internal sewerage systems.

How to prevent water pipes from freezing

Using a heating cable

  • when laying water pipes, it is necessary to take into account the depth of freezing of the soil in a given area and dig a trench below this level
  • the pipeline should be placed away from concrete and reinforced concrete structures, since they are prone to freezing stronger than the soil
  • good thermal insulation should be done at the entry points of pipes into the building, most often, mineral and glass wool is used
  • it is better if the diameter of the outer pipes is more than 50 mm - the more water in the pipe, the longer it will freeze
  • piping can be done with an electrical cable that will heat pipes at dangerously low temperatures.

If it was not possible to prevent freezing, you should start defrosting the water supply.

This can be done in several ways, all of them can be divided into two categories:

  1. Exposure outside.
  2. Warming up from the inside.

Regardless of the choice of the method for defrosting pipes, several rules must be observed:

  • it is necessary to determine as accurately as possible the frozen section of the pipe and its length
  • all shut-off valves must be open so that the thawed water has a way out
  • it is necessary to start heating the pipe from the open tap and then to the riser
  • sewer pipes, on the contrary, are warmed from the riser in the direction of the septic tank.

The difference between the summer water supply system and the winter

If you visit the cottage exclusively in the summer, during the holidays, then the summer system will be the best option. Winter is suitable for those who constantly live in the country or often travel out of town, regardless of the season.

Features of the summer water supply system relate to its performance and installation conditions.

Here are a few things you need to know:

  • with a lightweight summer version, the pipes are buried to a depth of 0.5 m to 0.8 m, that is, they do not take into account the freezing horizon (for comparison, the winter pipeline is laid in deep trenches, from 1.5 m and deeper, depending on the region)
  • pipes for temporary use do not need additional insulation (permanently operated utilities need additional thermal insulation or electric heating with a special cable)
  • installation of the pump does not require large investments - it is enough to put on a casing or install a canopy (a constantly working mechanism is usually installed in a specially designated enclosed space or in a caisson)
  • a stationary water supply system needs a drain device, like the winter capital option, however, for collapsible systems, this nuance is not relevant, because the drain occurs during the dismantling process
  • for installation of lightweight type, wiring with a serial connection is used, for permanent - with a collector
  • the operation of the seasonal system is more often provided by a submersible or surface pump, the functioning of the permanent network is due to the pumping station, if necessary, with a storage tank and a water heater.

It is clear that the device of the winter version is a more serious event that requires sufficient material investments. The status of a summer water supply system largely depends on its type: you can choose both a capital stationary structure and a collapsible "temporary house" for 2-3 months.

Practical advice and photo examples

Organizing a do-it-yourself landscape design at your favorite summer cottage is not such a difficult task! Adhering to a few simple rules, you can carry out all the activities yourself, transforming an ordinary suburban area into a unique, original and wonderful garden.

Where should you start work?

It seems that not so long ago, the garden plot seemed to be a place only for growing berries and vegetables. To be precise, about 15-20 years ago it was thought that way. At that time, many owners came to the suburban area solely to plant, water, weed and harvest, followed by pickling, salting and canning for the winter. Rarely was there a place in the garden that was not "occupied" by some plant. As for decorative plantings and just flowers, they were planted only along garden paths or in front of the house, since then they did not even think about landscape design.

However, not everyone was going to reduce their strength only to harvesting. There were also people who tried to plant at least small flower beds on their site, which would then involuntarily attract the attention of passers-by, becoming the cause of envy on the part of neighbors. It is possible that it was thanks to such gardeners that the first unique design ideas for the arrangement of the summer cottage began to appear. Over time, the craving for beauty awoke in almost every owner of a country house.

Today, there is no such person who, having a garden plot at his disposal, would not plan to create on it at least a small place for rest and relaxation, which would distract from worries and troubles with beautiful landings or more interesting solutions, for example, an alpine slide or picturesque reservoir.

After looking at photos of various ideas for arranging landscape design, many will probably come to the conclusion that it is unrealistic to implement something similar with your own hands. However, if you do not forget the expression "The eyes are afraid, but the hands are doing", then over time you can transform the suburban area beyond recognition and without resorting to the help of professionals.

For the most part, many decisions about landscape changes boil down to these simple questions:

  1. What will be located and where?
  2. What kind of lawn will be used?
  3. What kind of plants will be planted on the site?

The ideas don't end there. You can always supplement this list with an alpine slide, gazebo, a small pond or barbecue area. And, perhaps, in some cases, the area of the garden will be enough for all of the above, or you may have to be content with only a few elements.

An important point! Lawn grass is a must for a beautiful landscape. In contrast, ordinary weed grass will look sloppy in the future, spoiling the overall harmony and impressions.

Landscaping with coniferous vegetation

To equip the garden area using coniferous trees, you should definitely take evergreenseg cypress, thuja, juniper or yew. They will not grow too high, so they will not create large shadows on the site. In addition, if necessary, small plants can be easily shaped with garden shears.

Having planted plants around the perimeter of the territory, you get an interesting and beautiful hedge. The listed trees just go well with any flower plantings or alpine slide.

If there is a wide path on your site, then it would be more correct to plant a juniper or thuja on the sides of it. If there is none, then our simple tips!

When deciding to use conifers, you should adhere to the following rules:

  1. Coniferous vegetation is planted early spring or autumn time.
  2. Young plantings need mineral fertilization.
  3. For seating, you should use land with turf, sand and peat.
  4. Trees under 5 years old must be covered before winter.
  5. The seedlings need to be watered well at all times.
  6. There should be a space of at least 1.5 meters between landings.

It happens that the thuja begins to turn yellow after a while. This happens for one of three reasons: poor watering, damaged roots, or poor soil.

We use waste materials

Various elements and figures made by hand using unnecessary, old improvised materials and tools look pretty cute on the site. Antique pieces of furniture decorated under a flower bookcase will also look interesting in landscape design. After all, what initially may seem unnecessary, if desired and imagined, easily becomes an important and original component of any interior.

At the same time, it is not so easy for a home-grown young designer to immediately take and create something unique with his own hands. The presented tips and photos will be able to help the beginner.

What can be used to create an interesting landscape:

  • Boxes
  • Small and large plastic bottles
  • Tires
  • Old dishes such as pots and teapots.

To complete crafts, you should stock up on glue and paint of different colors. And be sure to be patient!

Flower bed decoration

What do you think is the secret of a beautiful flower bed? How are flowers planted so that afterwards they will only delight their appearance, from spring to late autumn?

Modern landscape design provides for more than one method for decorating flower beds in a summer cottage:

  • Mixborder
  • Border
  • Rabatki.

A mixborder is a flowerbed created with the participation of of various flowers, seated in small groups... The meaning of the composition is in the combination of both bright and contrasting colors, and plants growing at different times. Nevertheless, the mixborder must remain in bloom. constantly! How can this be achieved? To achieve this, you will need to work more than one season.

We arrange the flowers in the flower bed in the order of seasonal flowering. We divide the site into 3 main areas, on each of which plants will be planted, blooming in their own period of time: in spring, summer and autumn.

Of course, to do a mixborder with your own hands, you will have to sweat a lot, but after that you can be proud of yourself, watching the continuous flowering on your site.

The border is an ordinary flower seedling along the path. Any plants are used here, both perennial and annual. However, densely growing and creeping vegetation looks most beautiful. Thinking over the placement and layout of various plants, and their design, it is better to combine different colors.

Rabatka are flowers planted around the perimeter of the lawn. As a rule, it is organized in parks where there is a large area or lawn. You can create a rabat using one or several colors, completing the vegetation with tiers, etc.

We plant a lawn with our own hands

We have already said that the lawn is always the main one for any landscape design. It is from him that you need to make a start. We have already written earlier how to achieve perfect lawn.

Today there are several varieties of lawn grass. For beginners and inexperienced people, it is recommended to take universalbecause it is perfect for any purpose without requiring a lot of maintenance. In our case, it is more important to achieve greater beauty, neatness of the territory and, of course, convenience for rest and relaxation!

If the soil where you are going to plant the lawn is clean, then you just need to dig it up, level it, tamp it, and then sow grass seeds. After that, do not forget to add an additional layer of soil so that the birds cannot peck the seeds in the future.

Often there is a desire to plant a lawn in the old summer cottage area, not only thereby diversifying the landscape, but also creating at least a small place to relax. In most cases, there is a place at the dacha where the owners place sun loungers, grill kebabs and just get together with friends to relax. In this place, the grass, as a rule, sprouts in patches. The ground here had not been moved for many years, as a result of which it was heavily rammed. This moment is considered the most difficult for a novice landscape designer.

The first step is to get rid of annoying weeds.

To date, various chemicals are sold for these purposes, which are first watered on the weeds, after which the earth is dug up. The chemicals seep down to the roots, causing the plant to die. After that, the earth must be allowed to rest for at least a couple of weeks.

People who do not welcome interference with nature can be advised to uproot the grass, wait until it begins to grow in place again. A month later, the grown grass is removed again, after which the soil is dug up.

The soil should remain loose and free of lumps. Before digging, it is recommended to add mineral fertilizers to the soil. Thanks to them, young vegetation will begin to quickly gain strength and grow.

Next, the site is sieved with lawn grass. Don't forget what we are using universal mixture... Why exactly her, you ask? Because she:

  • Considered frost-resistant
  • Handles water shortage and shade well
  • It is unpretentious to care for.

It is important to note that it is not always possible to achieve a beautiful lawn the first time, in most cases it takes several seasons.

Until the lawn grass fully sprouts, you will have to remove the weeds that have formed. Otherwise, they will "kill" the cultured young. It is quite possible that in some places it will be necessary to repeat the subsidence of seeds, since sometimes birds can peck them, or the seeds simply will not sprout.

Of course, there are many difficulties, but in the end you will be able to walk barefoot on a beautiful and dense lawn grown by your own hands!

Lawn care rules:

  1. Frequent watering during dry seasons. IMPORTANT NOT TO FILL!
  2. We do not allow the grass to grow too much, otherwise it will be difficult to trim it afterwards.
  3. The lawn should only be mowed in dry weather. When wet, it is quite problematic to mow straight.

Arrangement of a garden plot

There are many methods for transforming and arranging an empty and boring landscape. Alternatively, you can place a beautiful alpine slide or an original flower garden right in front of the dacha, or completely redo the design of the territory, placing everything in a new way. For example, there is a bathhouse with a house, greenhouses, beds and other structures are in their place, but you want something new. Surely, many have seen picturesque and interesting solutions from some craftsmen, which originally diversified their site. The photos below are great examples.

First, you need to accurately determine the desires and what you would like to arrange on your site. After that, you need to see what you can afford and what it is better to refuse.

There is a place for a decorative pond - great! Is there a barbecue area? Excellent! Do not forget about planting flowers and other vegetation, which will later become a soloist for the whole season.

We acquire a special container for creating an artificial reservoir, after which we decide on a place for the future pit. Near the new reservoir, we certainly plant low-growing ground cover vegetation. For greater beauty, a toy swan, duck or frog should be lowered into the water. Such crafts can always be purchased in the store or made by hand.

Not far from the pool, you can install a gazebo or simply equip a barbecue area. If you don't feel like setting up a conversation yourself, a stretched awning is a good alternative, under which there will be chairs and a table. A brazier should also be placed nearby.

Areas intended for play and recreation should be planted with a lawn.

Be sure to decorate the garden path with a flower border, highlighting at least a small area to create a mixborder. Plant coniferous vegetation of various sizes and shapes near it and on the landscape itself. Thus, it will turn out to achieve a more unique and beautiful landscape design. Without this kind of plants, the summer cottage area will turn out to be incomplete.

When landscaping the site, DO NOT THINK to plant shrubs and trees near the barbecue, as they will soon dry out and turn yellow!

If you have a fence in the country, then you can decorate the fence with beans and grapes, thus creating the appearance hedge.

About the advantages and features of various types of fences and barriers, we have already wrote earlier on our website.

If your country house has spacious properties, then you can easily find a place to create famous alpine slide... This element of the landscape today is almost the dream of any summer resident.

Concluding the consideration of general questions on garden design, it is worth re-listing the key points:

  • The presence of small architectural forms, for example, various figurines, gazebos, decorative ponds
  • Planting a lawn
  • Coniferous vegetation
  • Mixborder creation.

Registration of the territory of different sizes

5 ares

Of course, 5 acres is not much, but you have your own plot. Moreover, even having such a territory, each owner wants comfort and beauty!

However, in this case, it is worth immediately listing the points that you DO NOT SHOULD do in small areas:

  • Don't try to fit what you don't like
  • Do not plant spruces and pines
  • Do not place a high and large fence.

The territory enclosed by a fence is perceived less in itself than it really is. As a result, the dacha will look more like a cage than a place to rest.

Almost any fence is beautifully decorated climbing vegetation, which will not only allow you to decorate the fence in an original way, but also visually smooth out the boundaries of the site.

As for spruces and pines, such trees grow strongly over time, which will overlap the landscape with a large shadow. In addition, such plants will take up a lot of space, and there is a shortage of it with 5 acres!

Having a small area of land available, it is more correct to equip a lawn on it with several flower islands and shrubs.

10 ares

On 10 acres, you can fit a lot more useful items.

In addition to a parking space for a car, a bathhouse and a house, a gazebo and a swimming pool can be placed on the territory of the cottage. There will also be a place for planting small shrubs with fruit trees. If desired, you can arrange the beds and greenhouses for vegetables.

Nevertheless, 10 acres also forces the owners to determine priorities when arranging landscape design, whether it is creating a place for recreation or placing a vegetable garden.

12 ares

Having acquired a new piece of land, it is necessary to competently think over both the plan for future development and landscape design, so that later you do not face rash nuances. Decide in advance where exactly in the future you will begin to sit with friends and guests, how much territory will be allotted for disembarkation, where you will be accommodated

BIIKS → Basic methods and materials for installing a water supply system in a country house

You built a house, drilled a well. How now to correctly bring water into the house? There can be many solutions. At BIIKS (, we use only the most proven and reliable ones. The BIIX company has been on the market for more than 15 years and during this time has carried out thousands of projects for drilling wells, installing equipment, supplying water to the house and outputting it to the sewer.

Bringing water into the house is a crucial stage, so the first step is to draw up a project. Based on the number and location of water points (washbasin, shower, toilet) and the number of people living, the balance of water consumption is calculated, as well as water disposal.

Water from the well enters the house through pipes made of HDPE (low pressure polyethylene, or food grade polyethylene). Pipes made of this material can last up to 50 years. On the street section "well-house" pipes with a diameter of 32 or 40 mm are used. When laying, the climatic realities of the Moscow region must be taken into account and the laying is carried out at a depth of at least 1.7 m - the depth of soil freezing.

In the water circuit, the water pressure is not constant - after the peak of maximum utilization, the water flow can drop to zero. In such conditions, only automation will be able to constantly maintain a given pressure in the system. For ease of maintenance, the automatic control unit is recommended to be installed in the house. There is little space required for installing the unit - about 1 sq. M. As a last resort, the automation can be installed in a specially equipped caisson.

Well water usually requires treatment. Accordingly, further it passes through the filter system. After the filters, the water supply is divided into hot and cold. The water is heated in a direct fired boiler. A boiler can also be used - in this version, heating is called indirect, since in this case heat is taken from a closed heating system.

Depending on the material from which the house is built and the installation method, different pipe materials are used. For a wooden house with an open laying of a water supply system, solid polypropylene pipes are used, and for a brick house with a hidden laying in the floor, walls and insulation, flexible pipes made of PEX cross-linked polyethylene are used. The material and construction of these pipes allows them to withstand more pressure. The diameter of the pipes used is from 16 to 32 mm.

When laying a water supply system, two methods are used: tee and collector. T-piece method - for both installation methods. In this case, taps are located at each device. The collector method is used only for hidden laying. Such a scheme turns out to be more expensive due to the larger footage of pipes, but it is more convenient to control, since all taps can be located in one or more cabinets.

The installation of the water supply system must take place at a temperature not lower than +10 C, otherwise the pipes become fragile. But if the work still needs to be carried out in cold weather, then using a heat gun, and with a closed circuit of the house (windows and doors), installation is possible even in winter.

Concrete admixtures

Today, there are many additives and additives for concrete, which can improve one or another of its characteristics. Before you buy a supplement, you need to decide which indicators need to be improved.

The main additives and their purpose:

  • Plasticizers make concrete more plastic and workable, which reduces labor costs.
  • Seals provide waterproofing properties to concrete.
  • Dedusting agents make concrete resistant to abrasion and increase its strength.
  • Accelerators and retarders of hardening allow you to adjust the setting time of concrete.
  • Antifreeze additives make it possible to carry out concrete work even at negative temperatures.
  • Adhesion improvers improve the "adhesion" of the concrete to the reinforcing elements.

Modern additives, as a rule, have a complex effect, that is, they can improve several characteristics at once.

Important! Always read the instructions for use of the supplement carefully. Some additives are incompatible with others, others cannot be used if concrete is reinforced, etc.

Important! Many additives alter the water requirement of the solution, generally less water is required. Be careful and add water to the solution in smaller portions.

You can find more information about concrete in the article "Eighteen Summer Resident Questions About Concrete".
